Book review: Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1)

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews

My rating: 3,5 of 5 stars

Song: Flyleaf – Breathe Today

Somehow I found myself not liking it as much as I did the Hidden Legasy series. Surprising, I know! I’m a bit shocked too.

The story just got away from me sometimes in terms of worldbuilding. I wouldn’t mind a little explaining about the tech and magic waves and what not, you know? Maybe it’ll come later but for now I feel not at all in the loop.

Another difference from Hidden Legasy is that the writing here is a lot drier. There are a lot of overdescriptions of scenes and not enough character development. Or maybe I’m just picky.

Don’t get me wrong – I liked the book, I thought I’d like it more though. But to show you I’m not a total party pooper, I’ll also tell you what parts I did like.

1. I’m totally ok with the misdirect about the identity of a bad guy. If it was that obvious I would’ve been waaaay disappointed and might have dropped the series after this book.

2. There was so much gore, my inner Dexter was laughing with joy (I know what you think and no, there is no treatment for it as of this moment, sorry).

3. There was no instalove or instalust or any instas whatsoever and I appreciated it immensely. Sometimes you should let thing progress naturally, or like one smart girl once sang:

At this point I’m not ready to call quits so I’ll be reading on, I got a feeling it gets better after this.

Over and out
