Hey, guys! I know, I know, it’s summer and everyone in tv-land is on hiatus (I’m not talking about midseason shows), so what is the point of even raising the subject?
The point is, now that your DVR is probably feeling lonely, I wanted to give you a few suggestions for binge watching. I’m a tv nut and the list of my shows is a mile long, but for now I’ll give you just a few of them. Some of the shows I’ll talk about are oldies (early 2000′ or older) and were pretty popular, but if you’re a millenial – chances are you missed out on them. Now is your chance to catch up!
Top 5 picks
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
“In every generation there is a chosen one… she alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.”
Everyone and their uncle knows that vampires are prominent figures in movies and tv-shows around the world. Sure, some credit could be shared with Stoker and Bela Lugosi, but no one could argue the role Joss Whedon played, creating the culture phenomenon that is Buffy. His first take on the character was an unfortunate one and shouldn’t be considered as anything other than a comedy, but the man knew he had something special with the material and thank God he didn’t give up on it. The show became a bright paranormal light for decades to come, with an amazing soundtrack that still plays regularly on my Ipod, so if you haven’t watched it yet I would seriously recommend it.
2. Harper’s Island
When a wedding destination becomes a hunting ground of a serial killer, no one is safe. Beautiful scenery, talanted cast, healthy ammount of suspence and slasher vibe will keep you entertained and curious until the bitter end. It’s a perfect summer show, if you’re anything like me and like a little bloody fun (oh, how I miss Dexter!).
3. One Tree Hill
Half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott trade between kinship and rivalry both on the basketball court and in the hearts of their friends in the small, but not so quiet town of Tree Hill, North Carolina.
One of the absolute best teen shows of all time in my opinion. Seriously, I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched it start to finish, and I’m thinking to do that again sometime soon, because I am just that obsessed. Again, can’t not mention the soundtrack. I don’t know who was the music supervisor or whatever, but that person is a genious, I could thank them for adding a lot of music to my playlist and introducing me to a lot of musical talent. Also Sophia Bush is a marvel in this one, for me she will forever stay Brooke Davis, no matter how many roles she’ll take on.
4. Big Little Lies
When women of such stature and influence as Reese and Nicole decide to make a tv adaptation of a book about mothers of first graders, you just know it’s gonna be something people gonna talk about. And it didn’t disappoint. The grit, the intensity, the depth of the characters wouldn’t allow you to be bored or uninterested, these ladies will pull you in and show you exactly what hides behind lunch boxes and PTA meetings.
5. Friday Night Lights
“Clear eyes, Full hearts, Can’t lose”
If you don’t know that motto you either live under a rock or think you wouldn’t like a show about football. Either way you lose, because the show is about so much more. Give it a chance and you’ll see that coach Taylor and his team has a lot to offer. You don’t even have to be a guy to love it too, girls love it as much as (if not more than) guys, I’m pretty sure that Riggins is to blame for that.
Anyway, that’s just my picks for summer binge watching, I wanted to share my favorite shows with you in hopes of maybe more people discovering it. Let me know what you’re watching in your spare time, we may have more in common than you know. I’ll be happy if you throw a few suggestions my way, I’m always looking for something new to watch.
